After This Course...

I have enjoyed every moment that I have spent volunteering at the Wake County Animal Center.  Although some days have been challenging and I have shed some tears, the love that the animals give is worth all of the hard work put into each visit.  It is my hope to continue volunteering at the center even after this course is over.  I realize that when August comes my life will be extremely busy as a senior in college with multiple teaching placements and classes at Meredith; however, this experience has had a big impact on me and I hope to continue volunteering on the weekends.  It is also my hope that I can encourage my friends and other members of the community to volunteer as well.  I will continue to promote the Wake County Animal Center.  I have learned so much and enjoyed helping each animal.  I will continue to promote this class and encourage everyone to volunteer at the center because volunteers truly do make a huge impact.  The workers at the Wake County Animal Center are continuously thanking us for being there and helping.  Everyone is always willing to answer our questions, help us in any way, and just talk with us.  I read a sign at the center last Wednesday that said, "Our volunteers do not get paid because our volunteers are priceless."  I thought about how true that statement was because there are so many animals and such a variety of needs at the center.  The workers alone have an enormous job and it takes many, many volunteers to help the animals.  I hope to be able to take friends with me on the weekends and volunteer in the coming months!
I am so appreciative of the opportunity to volunteer and hope that I can continue to help the animals and volunteer in the future!  Volunteering brings a smile to my face and getting to meet the animals each week is truly a wonderful experience.  It is also a true joy to watch the animals get adopted.  My classmates and I all get excited if we see that an animal has a deposit.  It is a great feeling to know that you have helped an animal find a loving home.  I would encourage volunteering at the Wake County Animal Center...and I can promise it will be a great experience for you!

Brianna snapped this photograph on June 6th!  The little boy I am helping walked up to me and said, "Can you help me?"  He had a gown and two gloves in his hands.  My heart immediately smiled (I am a Child Development major) so this completely melted my heart!  I helped the little boy and was able to talk with him about the animals.  I did not even know Brianna had taken these photographs until after the boys had walked away.  Thanks, Brianna!

Brianna took these two photographs of me helping with the gowning and gloving process.  I was so happy to see that even though this child was small, he was following the gowning and gloving procedures.  He came back to gown and glove each time he had been in a kennel with a dog.  Brianna helped the older child with gowning and gloving.  We thought this was very special and Brianna and I were happy to help!  Thank you again Brianna for the photographs!

    1. Professor Johnstone, thank you! Brianna and I were happy to help! It was nice to see that even though these were young children, they were very concerned with following the gowning and gloving procedures. Brianna and I enjoyed talking with the children! I am so glad that Brianna was able to capture this on camera! Thank you again!
